Railway Network in West China Expected to Expand to 50,000km in 2020

According to the Ministry of Railways of the People's Republic of China, till 2020, China’s railway network is expected to reach 120,000km, of which the network in the west will expand to over 50,000km, and structure of railway will be established basically. To support western development, the bureau will further increase funding for the railway construction of the west based on economic and social development status of the west. For a period in the future, the bureau will concentrate on implementation of major projects under progress and fully promote preliminary work of major projects, including Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway, Xi’an-Lanzhou High-speed Railway, Lanzhou-Urumqi High-speed Railway, Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway, Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway, Chengdu-Guiyang High-speed Railway, Chongqing-Guiyang High-speed Railway, Kunming-Nanning High-speed Railway, etc. Specifically, the bureau will facilitate early commencement of construction and formation of west network that is of sufficient transport capacity and high efficiency so as to provide strong support for sound and fast development of regional economic society.
