Recently, Ebola virus disease (Ebola) broke in Guinea and has caused at least 80 infected people and at least 59 deaths; 3 suspected cases have been found in Conakry, capital of Guinea.

Guinea’s Hygiene Department expressed that the strange fever case firstly appeared in Macenta in the southeast of Guinea on February 9 and then the similar cases also appeared in the surrounding areas including Kissidougou, Guéckédou, etc. As confirmed by the French Inspection Team on March 22, the virus samples taken in Macenta were caused by Ebola virus. Ebola virus is never found in Guinea before.

At present, the Guinean Government has taken emergency actions, cooperated with United Nation Children’s Fund, World Health Organization, International Committee of Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and other humanitarian rescue organizations, and dispatched the medical personnel and medicine to the epidemic areas to prevent the spread of Ebola.

Ebola virus is generally spread via blood and other body fluids at a rapid speed and can cause Ebola hemorrhagic fever with many main symptoms including high fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, sore throat, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, etc. The infected person has bleeding of mouth and nose when dying. At present, there are no vaccines or effective therapies. It is one of viruses with the highest fatality rate that people discover so far.

Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Guinea reminds Chinese citizens of strengthening precaution, wash hands and sterilize frequently, pay attention to personal hygiene, try to reduce the number of go-outs in this special period, try to avoid heading to the infected or crowded areas, and go to a doctor in time in the event of headache, fever or any other suspicious symptoms.
