On the afternoon of May 29, 2010, Angola Cunene Province Vice-Governor, Xangongo City Mayor and the delegation inspected the construction site of Ondjiva Water Diversion Project awarded to China Hyway Group Limited Mocamedes Railway Project Company.

    Ondjiva Water Diversion Project Contract was executed on May 6 and mobilization for construction of temporary structures was started on May 13; it was the first time that the officials from Cunene Province Government visited the construction site.

    Liu Yanxiang, the on-site head from the project department introduced the design, construction, process, on-site layout and other information of this project to the officials from Cunene Province Government in detail. He said that “The whole project includes one water intake pumping house, two water treatment plants, five booster pump stations, two water towers, 100KM¢630HDPE pipeline laying and installation (beyond the contract) and etc., and its total period of construction is 18 months; it will be completed on December 31, 2011. ”

   The Vice-governor and the officials from Xangongo Government fully affirmed our work of completing the ground flattening, fencing and enclosing within such short period of time after mobilization, in spite of harsh working conditions (our workers live in the tents and drink the river water). The Vice-governor directed the accompanying governmental officials to actively cooperate for construction of the water diversion project, and also emphasized that Ondjiva Water Diversion Project is a key project to solve the water diversion for the people and livestock in Xangongo, Ondjiva and other southeast parts of Cunene Province and a great event to benefit the people and their generations in Cunene Province, so all governments shall pay high attention to it.

   The Vice-governor also hopes China Hyway Group Limited to continue overcoming the hardships, control the scheduling, expedite the period of construction, and complete this water diversion project as per the specified deadline and quality, and also hoped this project to be put into operation as soon as possible and benefit the Angolan people.
